It was definately in his head. I told you my one encounter.I used to work at the Tower records in Berkeley on Durant. Around 9 or 10 on a Saturday night I was up the street waiting in line at Top Dog ( that place rocks! )when the dude behind the counter eyes get all big and he sprints out to the sidewalk because lo and behold theres Brent and some dude walking down the street. So the top dog guy starts REALLY laying it on congratulating him on the prominence on the new album ( Built To Last ) and how great the songs were. Of course I was never that big of a Brent fan but I certainly would never say bad things or anything. Anyway Brent thanked him but you could tell he was EXTREMELY uncomfortable getting complimented on any level. Granted he was WAY high, eyes completely bugging out and he's all jittery and paranoid looking. If it had been any opf the other guys in the band I know they would have exuded way more confidance to take in stride a compliment than that. The moral to this long winded story is that it seemed more than obvious that those demons of not fitting in were Brents not because of anything the fans laid on him.

HA! That was YOU! It's your fault Brent felt like he never fit in huh?

Yeah, that's a bad one but at least you got a head start on the bathroom or wherever. I had to get all excited wondering what they'd come out of space with only to hear the toy piano start going into I will take you home

Sorry Brent fans. I harbor no ill will against him, I just really really really disliked those songs. They came off to me like all of the cheesy mullet pop rock that floods the classic rock airwaves.

I still don't particularly like any of Brent's songs. He played killer keyboard on the GD material but his songs never seemed to fit into the GD.

Brent tune = break time

Not all of his tunes were like that. Mebbe just the ones he created lol. I loved the whole Dear Mr. Fantasy/Hey Jude era - and Devil with a blue dress/good golly miss molly jams were fun. But yea - some of his own stuff - I will take you home - Tons of Steel - could definitly have taken a backseat to better tunes. But then again - I would take a We Can Run over Wave to the Wind or Samba in the rain almost any day of the week.

I cant belive you guys are dissing Brent. My long strange trip began in 1982 when I heard Goto Heaven the first time. It was obvious to me then and now that if not for Brent joining I think Jerry would have lost all interest in Grateful Dead. You might think those songs sux but the fat man loved um. I never understood "I will take you home", till I had a daughter. I would give up every damn "Playing in the Band" I saw upwards of 30, for one more "I dont need love"
